$450.00
sold out

This individiually hand crafted and gilded pōhutakawa leaf is made from salvaged rimu and genuine copper gilding. A patina has been applied to the surface of the leaf to replecate marks often found on pōhutakawa leaves. The native pōhutakawa tree, a precious taonga, is susceptible to disease from bacteria and fungi. Often blackened spots will appear on their leaves forming marks reminiscent of patina. These are marks of decay that are beautiful yet poignant.

This piece measures 37 × 12 × 2cm and may be hung vertically or on an angle from a fixture on the rear. Gloves are recommended when handling the copper gilding so as to avoid marking surface with hands.

Not suitable for display outdoors, in full sun or near heat. Please see options for commissions or gifting.
