The Kererū, or native wood pigeon, is another of New Zealand’s most treasured birds. They are large, rotund birds that may be found in the foliage of large trees around New Zealand including in the back yards of Kiwi homes. The feathers of the Kererū have a subtle iridescence and are coloured grey,green and purple.
This flight feather has been individually hand carved from salvaged matai timber and painted intricately in acrylics. A key hole style hanging hardware is installed on the rear for a horizontal aligned hanging. This feather measures 43 × 8 × 2cm and had been finished with a beeswax polish. Not suitable for display outdoors, in full sun or near heat.
