This sleek tūī wing feather hs been intricately hand carved from a piece of salvaged matai timber. Acrylic paint has been applied in many layers to create a lacquer effect then iridescent blue-green paint has been used to replicate the captivating sheen of the tūī. Iridescent sheen changes with the light of the day and seasons.
Piece measures 80 × 14 × 3cm and is fitted with hardware for easy hanging indoors either vertically or on an angle. However, wood carvings are not recommended for display in areas of full sun or near heat such as a fire place.
Use a soft cloth to dust. Beeswax polish has been used to protect wood.
