The kōtuku or white heron is one of New Zealand’s rarest wading birds. While the species is common across Australia and Asia, it is exceptionally rare in New Zealand, with a stable population of only about 150 to 200 birds. This population shares just one breeding site near Lake Mopourika in the South Island. Renowned for its striking white plumage and elegant stance the kōtuku is also the tallest of Aotearoa’s native birds.
This larger scale flight feather embodies the elegance of the heron with its long silhouette and graceful curves. Individually hand carved from miro antive timber and painted in acrylic. Piece measures 93 × 14 × 3cm and is fitted with hardware for easy hanging indoors.
Not suitable for display in full sun or near heat, use a soft cloth to dust when necessary.
